Who We Are

FlowCore is a VUB‑recognised core facility offering high‑parameter flow‑cytometry services at three locations – two sites on the Health Campus (Jette) and one on the Etterbeek campus. We support academic, industrial, and clinical projects that require advanced cell analysis or purification.

Services

Analysers

• Modern cytometers capable of multiparametric phenotyping, suitable for immunology, signalling studies, and radionuclide‑based assays.
• Users complete a short theoretical module followed by three practical sessions before gaining independent access.

Sorters

• High‑speed fluorescence‑activated cell sorters for precise cell isolation.
• Training is offered at three progressive levels; the most advanced level allows self‑service operation after a comprehensive hands‑on programme.
• Every sorting request must be accompanied by a biosafety declaration and a unique sample identifier.

Dedicated Staff

• Training & assistance – Experienced staff are on‑site during all training sessions and are available for ad‑hoc guidance whenever users work on the instruments.
• Troubleshooting – If an instrument shows abnormal behaviour, staff intervene immediately to diagnose and resolve the issue, minimising downtime.
• Maintenance – All analysers and sorters are serviced regularly according to manufacturer specifications and internal quality‑control standards, ensuring reliable performance and compliance with safety regulations.

Booking & Access

• An online reservation system allows scheduling up to a month ahead, with 24/7 instrument availability.
• Required booking information includes species, biosafety level, GMO status, and fluorescent dyes.
• Standard cancellation policy applies (free cancellation with sufficient notice; late cancellations or no‑shows may incur a fee).

Biosafety & Traceability

• BSL‑2 safety procedures are enforced.
• Each sample receives a unique identifier and a biosafety form to ensure full traceability throughout analysis or sorting.

Data Management

• Raw data are temporarily stored on instrument workstations and then automatically backed up to a secure server.
• Users retain full ownership of their datasets. Naming conventions guarantee inclusion in the backup workflow.
• Short‑term storage is provided free of charge for one year; longer retention may be subject to fees.
